South Carolina expands home-buying assistance with Palmetto Heroes Program

If you thought buying a new home was out of reach, a newly-expanded program in the state of South Carolina may change that. In May of 2020, the Palmetto Heroes Program was expanded to include healthcare workers, teachers, first responders, veterans, and other frontline workers who have been working tirelessly in the face of the COVID crisis.

People in the following professions are now eligible for the program:

  • Teachers
  • Emergency Medical Services Personnel
  • Licensed Medical Professionals
  • Grocery Store Employees,
  • Package Delivery Drivers
  • Law Enforcement Officers
  • Correctional Officers
  • Firefighters
  • Veterans
  • SC National Guard

Qualified homebuyers can receive a 3.5% fixed rate mortgage and up to $10,000 in down payment assistance. The qualifying credit score has also been lowered, in addition to changes to income requirements. Depending on your income and family size, homebuyers in the program can purchase a home up to $300,000.
