1580 square feet. That’s all it took to convince our team that we had found the perfect cottage plan to build. With 3 bedrooms, 2 living spaces, 2 porches and a kitchen, this home packs a whole lot of punch with every foot possible.
The Connor home offers the desirable open-floor plan, but with a few tricks up its sleeve. We love how this plan sections off a flexible dining or study space at the front. While most of our cottage homes have the entire first floor as one breathing unit, the 1580 provides a pocket of privacy to play with.
This flex space received a heavy dose of custom trim detail – floor to ceiling to be exact. Rebecca Lask, our Raleigh based designer, spearheaded the aesthetics behind this home and shared insight behind her creative process.
“While designing a small home can feel restrictive, the reality is that less square footage allows you to think more purposefully. The dining/study flex space showcased in this plan is one of my favorite spaces I have designed. I wanted a space that you could see yourself dining, reading, lounging or working. A space where your only limit is your imagination.” – RL
Clean, fresh and chic – that’s how we feel about this perfectly sized kitchen. While ginormous oversized cooking spaces are ideal, there’s something uncannily appealing about a small, functional and well-designed heart of the home.
Cabinets are White Brellin Laminate with stainless hardware. Backsplash is Rittenhouse Square 3×6 in Ice Gray with Platinum grout.
Countertop is Lunar Pearl granite. Pendants are Feiss Alcott in satin nickel with opaque glass. Stainless apron farm sink and Trinsic faucet featured.
The family room showcases a handsome wall of shiplap incased by 1x8s painted in Attitude Gray.
“I believe it’s important for a large open room to have a design focal point. Whether it is used for a gallery wall, oversized mirror or mounted TV, this dark wall of shiplap allows for a multi-layering of personal taste.” – RL
When it came time to stage the home we turned towards Grant Do, marketing, and Michele Upchurch, design.
“We initially had a walkthrough of the home and realized how fresh and clean the space felt due to the whites, greens and grays. We saw ripples of blue for furniture and décor color to connect the door that is Sherwin Williams Bosporus SW 6503, and pushed for a modern chic aesthetic overall. Urban Oasis was born from the therapeutic and relevant vibe that was created.” – GD
